Dances: At the Edge of Understanding, 2022
September 15-16, 2022 at the Warehouse Art Museum
A site-specific performance inspired by the ideas of South African visual artist William Kentridge, Dances: At the Edge of Understanding explores Kentridge’s art-making processes and ideas presented in the Warehouse Art Museum’s Kentridge Festival. Set in the adjacent parking lot of the Warehouse, the performance evolves in a choreography of translation. Movement and memory coalesce as collage, unfolding on the border and boundaries of the lot. In an act of making, fragments fly into action, a big drawing happens, gestures sweep, and dancers gather shadows. Dances blossom from peripheral thinking, mistakes are beloved, everything repeats...sort of.
