DRIVE IN DANCES | July 28-30, 2020
Dancers lit by headlights and hunting lanterns move in a new landscape, strangely beautiful and intimate. Dancers appear and disappear assessing distance and proximity. Solos, duets and trios arise unexpectedly as intricate scores unfold with full-bodied dancing under the night sky.
20 Car limit each evening.
Performers: Katelyn Altmann, Chelsey Becher, Simone Ferro, Tori Isaac, Mauriah Kraker, Molly Keifer, Danielle Lohuis, Jenni Reinke, Lindsey Ruenger and Yeng Vang-Strath.
ON THE RIVER | October 12-14, 2020
The second in the company’s performance series, Parking Lot Dance #2: On the River brings audiences to watch dance in one of the city’s most unusual downtown parking lots on the bank of the Milwaukee River.
As night falls along the Milwaukee River, dancers appear and disappear, moving in and out of headlights, navigating and accompanied by seagulls, geese, and cars traveling over bridges that frame the lot. City traffic and party boats pass continually, surrounding dancers and audience. Musical interludes of saxophone and pauses to feed the seagulls round out the evening.
Performers: Tori Isaac, Mauriah Kraker, Molly Keifer, Danielle Lohuis, Jenni Reinke, Lindsey Ruenger and Joe Willard Riggenbach. Saxophonist Nick Zoulek returns to Milwaukee for his fifth site-specific collaboration with the company.
UNDER THE FREEWAY | November 19-20, 2020
Under the Freeway, a two-part site-specific performance in the city’s most intriguing parking lot.
Beneath the curved exit ramp to the Hoan Bridge, Wild Space transforms a parking lot into a performance site. Massive concrete columns undergird the freeway overhead, an engineered wonder of symmetry and beauty. Nestled between these structures, a curious puzzle unfolds as dancers migrate between the columns and perform for two audiences at the same time. A foreground for one side is backgrounded on the other.
Riveting by design, Under the Freeway beguiles the eye and engages the mind. Wild, rousing dancers move in and out of shadows caught by headlights. Comings and goings surprise with unexpected unison, duets of impossible actions, like-minded trios and provocative solos (for someone not there).
Dancers: Alisha Jihn, Karlies Kelley, Molly Kiefer, Emily Olson, Jenni Reinke, Yeng Vang-Strath, and special guests.
