Song from the Uproar
Milwaukee Opera Theatre and Wild Space Dance Company presented the Milwaukee premiere of Missy Mazzoli’s Song from the Uproar, drawn from the journals of Swiss adventurer Isabelle Eberhardt (1877-1904). Through poetic vignettes, expressive dance and a shimmering score, Song from the Uproar honored a woman of indomitable spirit who forged a remarkable life. Featurng Colleen Moore as Isabelle Eberhardt.

In Luscious, Artistic Director Debra Loewen and guest artists premiered new works that fused the sweet and forbidden, dreamy desires and tempting realities. The performance featured Fevered Sleep in a dance set to composer Tim Russell’s musical improvisations. Vocalist Amanda Schoofs joined company member Laura Murphy in Layers, a duet blending dance and vocals. Completing the show was a solo by Jade Jablonski, a new company work infused with the luscious familiarity of chocolate and a Wild Space favorite, In This Condition, performed by company member Mauriah Kraker.

Inspired by appetite, the culinary arts and the pursuit of satisfaction, Wild Space Dance Company served up Delicious, a moveable feast of inventive dance and wry humor that will delight audiences in any community. Flying dishes, favorite and feared recipes, onstage cooking and directions on good dinner manners filled the Delicious menu. Through interwoven vignettes of theatrical movement and full-bodied dance, performers revealed desires and disappointments in the pursuit of satisfaction.
