“WILD SPACE IS AN IMPORTANT PART OF MILWAUKEE”

Founded by Artistic Director Debra Loewen in 1986, Wild Space Dance Company is one of Wisconsin's most creative performing companies. Its mission is to expand the audience for contemporary dance through performances and outreach programs throught southeastern Wisconsin.

Known for site-specific works and artistic collaborations, Wild Space merges contemporary dance with text, architecture and visual art to develop innovative performances. The company's history reveals how Wisconsin has inspired Wild Space dance projects, reflecting the lives and voices of the community.

Debra Loewen and the company are critically acclaimed and have been cited among the city's top ten performances of the year by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Recent performances have featured collaborations with nationally published poet John Koethe, sculptor Jill Sebastian, the Milwaukee Art Museum and the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design.  Wild Space has performed in New York at Dance Theater Workshop and DanceSpace; in Chicago at Link’s Hall, the Chicago Cultural Center and the Chopin Theater; the Illusion Theater in Minneapolis, and throughout southeastern Wisconsin.  International touring has included performances and teaching in Japan and Korea.

Wild Space is a company-in-residence at Lincoln Center Middle School of the Arts in Milwaukee and Lawrence University in Appleton.
